BLUE STATES - SEASON SONG
Blue States "Season Song" Album Review
Solid 3 Tracks
Blue States is Andy Dragazis. Through the past few years - since 1999-2000 really - he's put out a few very good releases. I'll always remember "Nothing Changes Under the Sun" as one of the best albums that I own. It's the sort of soundtrack that's free, experimental and just grows on you exponentially when you listen to it for the third time in a great stereo. "Man Mountain" followed it up and while I don't think it was nearly as strong, relying more on lyrics than the previous album in 2000, it was still a strong release. Unfortunately (for me) he went in a completely different direction with "The Soundings", an indie influenced album that has both high fives from fans, and depressed thumbs down from fans of his original works.
This is a 3 track single - not necessarily off of "Man Mountain" from 2002, but from the movie "28 Days Later", a film about post-apocalyptic London. With that said the mood of "Season Song", featuring the chorus of people young and old but dominated by children, fits the mood of the film - hope in the darkest of days. While it admittedly wasn't my favorite track on "Man Mountain", it does fit the mold of the movie. The song's given a solid remix by trance guru Rui Da Silva (remember "Touch Me" back in 2000-2001?), and there's a heavy elextronic remix to John Murphy's "Taxi" - the song builds up to a dead silent whisp before a near etheral voice whisps over the air - again with the movie in mind.
All in all, this is actually a fair single of the movie's theme but I must admit that I only got this a few years ago because I'm a Blue States fan and wanted to round out the collection. IMO the remix is dated and there's far better electronica and Blue States material than this. I think you're better off getting "Nothing Changes Under the Sun" or "Man Mountain" in general because you'll have not just more songs, but better ones too.
